Some background by Jeff on this project: I've volunteered to do radio communicatiosn support for a number of events, and it bothered me that I was always schlepping my gear around in plastic boxes, and then having to fiddle with cabling once I arrived. I got the idea that I could 'modularize' the equipment so that all I would have to do is to connect power and antenna lead lines and be ready to go. So I gave a talk on my efforts so. In the following pictures, I have my modularized power supply and HF bands radio and antenna tuner.

I'll give a rundown on the setup and makeup of all of the incdividual pieces of this "GO PACK" I have put together.
 
The Overall Setup
This picture shows the battery box on the floor, with its lid and radio set up on the table.
The power cables are connected. The antenna was not set up for the purposes of the 'show and tell'.

Deep Cycle Battery
This shows the deep cycle battery inside a metal ammo can. The battery is setting on a rigid foam pad to absorb shocks. The ends of the battery are held in place by sculted foram blocks.

Battery Box Lid
A cable from the battery connects to the battery booster on the left-hand side. A short cable connects the battery booster to the Anderson Power Pole distribution panel, and a third cable with 25 Amp fuse goes from the panel to the radio.

The booster produces a constant 12V DC output from a variable voltage from the battery. This nearly dobules the useful amount of powper that can be had from the battery. The booster has a mximum output of 300 watts.

The Anderson Power Pole power distribution panel provides DC power with each circuit individually fused.

The silver box on the right-hand side is an inverter which converts 12V DC to 110 VAC to run equipment that needs AC power.

Radio and Tuner
This was truly the hard part. The Yaesu 450-D radio covers HF bands from 6m down to 160, plus is a general coverage receiver for short wave and AM broadcasts. The tuner on the right hand side allows me to get full use out of my antennas, and even tune up a random length wire to use as an antenna on most bands. There is one cable going from the Anderson distribution panel on the inside of the battery box lid, to a splitter block (not visible) on the back of the unit, with individual power chords going to the radio, antenna tuner and LED light bard.

The whole radio & tuner unit fits into a separate ammo box.

I will be building something similar for my VHF radios.

Having the power and radios set up already will allow me to travel with my gear and set up pretty quickly for future events.
